The Dalehead is designed to give the rider options. By placing the cheekpiece of the bridle in the top slot you have a choice of rein options affecting leverage. A curb strap may be used to distribute even pressure on the horse's jaw which will also help stabilise the bit and prevent it rotating too far downwards into the mouth. The bar of the mouthpiece is attached to the cheek of the bit using a C sleeve design to try to allow the cheek to slide a little without pinching the corners of the horse's lips.
